(23% new French oak, 10% new American oak, 18% 1-year-old American oak and 45% 2-year-old American oak): Bright purple. Deep dark berry and cherry scents show very good clarity and vivacity. Juicy and focused, offering fresh blackberry and bitter cherry flavors and a jolt of bracing minerality. Shows very good balance, with pure dark fruit flavors clinging tenaciously on the finish. This lively wine comes in with a pH of 3.52, which puts it squarely into Bordeaux territory.

Prices have soared for this bottling, which used to be an excellent value within the Penfolds stable. The quality is still excellent, with this 2010 offering plenty of weight and power. Vanilla and cedar notes frame chunky, extracted dark-fruit notes that pick up hints of mocha on the finish. Drink 2016-2025, possibly beyond.

Tight and vibrant, with currant, cherry and floral flavors, this pushes through a layer of firm tannins, glowing alluringly on the expressive finish. Drink now through 2018. 4,000 cases imported.
