Hoopes Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
|Region||California, Napa Valley|
Intriguing, with an overt mint, sage and savory lead-in followed by a reserved core of red currant, loganberry and raspberry fruit flavors. Pure and racy in feel, with light bramble and apple wood notes scoring the very end. Lovely energy and range, albeit in a cooler, more herb-inflected style. Drink now through 2028. 3,000 cases made.
A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and the rest Petite Sirah, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley spent 21 months in 35% new French oak. It's a medium-bodied, rounded, slightly mid-weight, yet charming 2014 that offers notes of plums, herbs, spice and underbrush. It's ideal for drinking over the coming decade.
Smoky char on the oak emphasizes savory and earthy aspects of this weighty wine, a combination of tobacco leaf, pencil and compost. A hearty 9% Merlot is added, as are 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Petite Sirah.
